One of the most popular articles on the PBR site discusses the why board review questions can be a HORRIBLE study tool. It flies in the face of our traditional understanding of how to prepare for medical board exams.

The general idea behind this is that questions from various board review sources are almost NEVER provided to you in a streamlined fashion that’s meant to systematically cover everything you need to know for the boards. 

So, why do we spend so much time focusing on questions?

For most of us, we believe FALSELY that doing so will result in a stronger knowledge base because we’ll SEE MORE INFORMATION. That’s the WRONG way to approach your board studies. Some of also believe that we’re likely to see repeat questions on the exam. That’s often true, BUT… I would argue that such thinking is still not the most important reason to go over tons and tons of questions.
